I love that tighter portrait where she has one eye closed; the one just above the bts shot of her leaping in the flash. Such a great shot. Maybe this is better suited for a post but I'd love to hear how you navigate those creative brainstorms with a subject? Are you bringing ideas to the table or are you more fishing inspiration from the subject? I'm always interested in the inception of these photos. Thanks!
It is always such a delight when the subject brings something exciting to the shoot. When they join you in trying to make the shoot go as well as possible, it triples - not doubles - the creative flow. I really like the portraits.
Wesley, thanks so much for sharing these. I can see in the images the connection and trust you created. I am about to embark on my first portrait series. I’m great at shooting in nature but people? They are a different beast. Do you have words of advice for photographing nervous, self-conscious subjects? Thanks so much for this Substack. I always learn something. Cathy
Lovely photos, Wesley. I am sure Lara is so happy to have all of these great images for her upcoming show.
May I ask what kind of software or plugin are you using to create the contact sheets? Since you were shooting digital, but it has that nice analog contact sheet feel. Thanks!
Ok got it! So I assume the image numbers on it do not correlate with the digital exposure numbers. That would be a nice plugin function to have in Lightroom... 👋❤️👌📷

Good idea for a post Gajan, will work on that. But in a nutshell, a bit of both.
Super fun shoot.

Thanks Alon! The contact sheets are a custom PSD a friend built that I open in Photoshop

that's correct and true!
