Weiss had an incredible career as a documentary and fashion photographer, despite being a woman in a male-dominated professional world. She was self-taught, and didn't worry about perfecting the technical details. What she was after was capturing the emotion of the person in the moment. Here's a great interview with her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ytp3n5Z-ptY&t=63s
I always love reading the thoughts behind your process and how they so often align with my own. Thank you for reminding me to check in with my purpose...again!
Love the images and article about the Leica too-I'm a coloour fiend myself but I can see the attraction!
I loved this piece, not just because my go to camera is a Leica Q2, with many of my photos in black and white. My purpose, after surviving a heart transplant and 6 deaths, is to help people shimmer. I am doing this through my poetry and novels, which I’m serialising on conked.io and also through my photos. To be honest I’m still exploring how best to do this with the camera, but I love the process of exploration as it is changing me in unexpected ways. All the best
thanks for sharing Rand, and it sounds like you've been through a lot and are still thinking positively and outwardly, very admirable! thanks for sharing!
Change is inevitable. It puts us in discomfort which I believe is so important for growth. I too am going through changes in my life - shifting careers, where I live etc. It's important to trust your intuition and listen to your heart which shows me what I truly desire and helps me to take action. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Wesley very insightful
With so much detachment and absence, feeling truly authentically seen by another person can absolutely be life changing, it’s not pompous, it’s just true
Keeping a journal has helped me finding my purpose, personal and with photography just by reminding myself where I want to go. I remember a drawing at a bar I was going when I was a teenager "If you don't look where you wanna go, you'll go where you're looking at".
‘making people feel seen can change someone’s life’ reminds me of the late great French photographer Sabine Weiss, who said the same
I will investigate, sounds like my kind of photographer :) thanks for letting me know Victoria!

thanks for sharing Shanil! so true, trust your intuition, even when we somehow feel compelled not to.
Really love the idea of simply changing tables instead of continually trying to fight to “win” with a hand that is full of duds.
I'm glad you got something out of it like that too! it's so nice to switch perspectives
