Great read, Wesley. Also nice to hear you used your dad's old camera. Makes it so much better. Looking forward to see the results.

Hi Wesley, I've included this atop Flipboard's photography newsletter today. This isn't the actual newsletter, but it gives you an idea of what's in it. If you DM me your email, I can forward you a "hard copy" by the end of the week. https://flipboard.com/@mia/some-favorite-photography-substacks-50kq0f9araorioci Thanks for all that you do, and to the Substack community for recommending you in my Note!

Hello! I’m glad I found your Substack! I love my solitary walks with my camera. I would say for me, it’s usually the photos that come before the work. If I try to construct some thing with my mind, including careful planning in the process, I usually find that there is some personal or ego related purpose. However, when I engage with the camera and allow things to surface on their own, I surprised by what comes out of it. Your work is lovely and has a strong gentle character to it. I enjoyed looking through the images. I also look forward to your gear related topics! Thanks.

Wonderful photos and insightful story. I can’t imagine shooting in that cold. I can hardly imagine that temp. Looks like you got a super collection of images.

I love, love the picture of the tires in the snow!

I find it interesting that you take pictures because you need to and then see what you can do with them or how they fit together. Usually the advice is "take your vision and go outside there to capture it". That never worked for me. Your way resonates.
