Great reminder to start a 365 for 2024! Thank you.

Are you planning on making something like a printed version for yourself. It could become a great yearbook and something valuable to look back on later on in life

That's exactly what I'm thinking :)

RESPECT, that is about as long as Noah Kalina's self portrait project! Also, very cool how the website showcases pictures from the same day across the years.

Thank you Wesley - it is just something I do now and it's great to look back a visual diary.

Did you develop/scan all of these at the end of the year or did you break it up? (i.e. every month)

I think I sent these out in maybe four batches.

Love this Wesley, thanks for the inspiration at the end of the year, this resonated with me a ton and some of my struggles with journaling. Looking forward to doing some projects like this in 2024 and good luck on your upcoming goals as well!

Great thoughts Wesley on the power of keeping some kind of journal, written or visual, year to year.

2024 marks my 20th anniversary of *near* daily posting of one image a day.

I say "posting" vs making because the images I post are not necessarily taken the same day. Still, it is an archive of 20 years of life through my daily images, and a joy to go back through in this format.

Also a reminder that the platform I've been using (Aminus3) is basically a 365 project framework whether you are taking the image each day, or just posting one select image, it works both ways.

Another thing I like to do is select a random photo with an intention or question.

I am constantly amazed at the relevance to the image that comes up from the past and its relation to my present day query. It is a form of divination, not unlike tarot cards but even more personal that the imagery that comes back to you is your own and you have all those associations with the photo and the memory of the moment the image was created.

It can be very powerful if you keep a written journal to correlate what was going on the day the image posted in terms of challenges I was facing, dreams I experienced, or other things like that.

Great idea! And a well written post. I’m future focused as well and it can be an agonizing thing at times. This is a wonderful remedy.

Yes, convinced me as well to order a couple of these little Trix gems. My father, now passed away, loved loved loved TriX. He would have loved this idea https://www.jessealexander.com/

I got my first Tri-X from my father back in the day too, Andi :) Love that you're gonna do it too!

OK, you convinced me. Just ordered a few of these wonderful little magical photo machines.

If I had a nickel for every roll of Tri-X I exposed.

Always a delight to see what you bring on Sundays.

Thanks so much Don! Can't wait to see what you made with these!

I love this story! I’m curious: Did you use this camera only for this project, or for shooting other material as well? Did you restrict yourself to just one photo each day on this camera, or did you select from a collection?

I made several years of “a photo a day” project back when I was a Photojournalist, almost 2 decades ago, now. Reading your story, makes me consider doing that again, but with just my iPhone, and each day selecting an image, and putting it into a 2024 album, for a 365 project. Thank you so much for the inspiration. 💗 🙏

Hi Jiling! Thanks for the kind words! I have used these cameras before, but in the past year I only used them for this project. I did restrict myself to one photo a day only, the restriction is part of what makes it a challenge and increases the quality of the process and the images. Too much choice or opportunity can murder creativity imo. I hope you do indeed do one for 2024!

Very inspiring and tempted to follow suit in some kind of way. Will you do it again?

Absolutely, I will continue next year! I hope you do as well in some sort of way!

I’m looking forward to it!

Great photos, Wesley. I'm a huge Tri-X fan so definitely will get my hands on this disposable to play around.

let me know how you like it!

I think I will do that with my Olympus XA with TriX in 2024. Another great one👌🏻

Expand full comment

Same for me. I have the XA as well.. Will you carry the flash with you as well?

Expand full comment

I think not always, but it depends, maybe for nights or low lights. I don’t think I will carry during normal sunny days.

I would highly recommend it because while I agree the photographer has a lot to do with it these cameras punch above their weight and tri-x is legendary.
