First of all, congratulations on your 200th edition. I have a statistics blog where I post one data analysis per month and I know how hard is to keep the consistency.
Now, regarding your question, The Process made me realize how important is to have a photography project, even for hobbyists like me. I am an Assistant Professor of Statistics in Brazil. This year I am taking a sabbatical in Mendoza, Argentina, and decided to make a book from my one year experience here.
I'm shooting since February, at least twice a month, and I think I will have a decent amount of good photos to curate, organize, print and share with the world in 2026 or 2027.
Awesome! Congratulations on this milestone. You remain a constant source of inspiration and I appreciate you sharing these insights with all of us. I will circulate this post in my networks since I think more artists and imagemakers will benefit from reading it. I hope you're well, Wesley!
Do you have a guide or will do a guide on how do your organize what you will talk in each newsletter? I know you have a guide on how you organize your photos, I really like seeing the "backstage" of things do that's why I'm asking
No guide! I just write about what comes up for me in my life as a photographer. I don't work very far ahead with these, but of course if I know something specific is coming up like a book release, I do think about what I can write about and roughly plan that in a calendar.
Congratulations on reaching 200 issues of your Substack! I’ve been following since around your 100th issue, and each one has taught me so much. As an amateur photographer, I’ve gained invaluable insight into how professional photography works and publishing is done.
This year, I even printed my own portfolio, though it's just a single copy for my personal collection, but it got me thinking that maybe I could try making a zine someday. Once again, congratulations!
Congratulations on issue 200! I just looked in my email history and the first issue I was subscribed for was Process Issue 002 from 2 May 2020! I look forward to this newsletter every week and have read them all (including issue 001 from before I signed up, of course). I enjoy seeing your photography and feel inspired and encouraged to pursue my photography through your sharing of your process and what inspires you. With help from your inspiration over the years, I created my first photography zine (I mailed you a copy of this a few years ago as a thank you), applied and was accepted for my first solo photography exhibition, and designed my first book. Thank you for the consistent motivation and inspiration to pursue those opportunities!
Ben! Thanks you so much, 002 mega OG!! Thank you for those words, means the world, and I still have your zine! So glad you were able to do all these things and happy to have played a small roll in that with Process!
Wow! This is wild because I’ve been reading since issue 03🤯 I didn’t even realize how long I’ve been here until now honestly! This newsletter has been so inspiring, and Wesley, even when you aren’t talking about photography, I feel like it’s still really grounding to hear from you every week. From times when I’ve been in a creative rut/uninspired to the times where I’m more inspired than ever and actually starting my journey as a professional photographer, your words have always been there! You’ve demonstrated consistency which honestly is the most inspiring!
Congrats on 200 issues! I find the more I write, the more I write. Even if it in the moment it feels hard. Thanks for leading the way for photographers like me on substack
Wow 200! Your articles and some mentorship time with you have had a huge impact on many aspects of my processes. You really give useful information and the time spent on it shows. When I need an answer I browse your content history first. I did not realize yours was the first photography newsletter, just look at what you started : ) Congratulations and best wishes for continued success and another 200 newsletters!!
Congratulations! I love your observations and they often make look more closely at my own.
That means a lot Martha!
